In April 1834, 'George Welch, keeper of the "Summerland Tavern" Beer Shop, was convicted in the penalty of 40s. and costs, for keeping his house open after ten o'clock at night.' In the 1841 census George Welch is a publican at the Union Arms, and continues so until 1871.
