Until 1994 this was the HEN AND CHICKENS. In April that year, after a £380,000 revamp, it became part of David Bruce's Firkin chain and had a brewery installed, which was visible through a viewing window. The brewery also supplied the FLANKER AND FIRKIN in Cow Lane. In 2001 it became the AARDVARK.
